Men’s Golf
While there is no official “Men’s Day” at Cherry Hill, the Club provides a wide variety of events for members of all handicap levels to enjoy. On weekends and Wednesdays, the “Sweeps” rewards individuals in all handicap categories for low net scores in the form of Pro Shop credit.
Included among the Men’s golf calendar are the opening and closing day events and monthly guest days called Cherry Pickers. Cherry Pickers events are an economical opportunity for members to invite three guests for lunch, golf, dinner and a low pressure tournament with prizes, a raffle and ensuing social activities.
Cherry Hill’s premier invitational tournament is the Three-Day which traditionally takes place on the days that lead up to Father’s Day in June. Not only does the Three-Day present an opportunity for golfers to enjoy the challenging course, but it also provides a venue for gentlemen to take advantage of the varied entertainment options, unique to southern Ontario. The Chapman format of golf, which is a modified alternate shot format, has been a part of the Three-Day for decades at Cherry Hill. Chapman golf is as stern a test of golf skills as it is a test of the friendship of the golf partners who participate.
In July the Two-Day invitational is a popular event which is always filled to capacity. Both invitational tournaments feature a stag night as well as a dinner dance, which functions as an appropriate thank you to spouses for permission to indulge in golfing exploits for the duration of the tournament.
The Club Championship establishes bragging rights for the individual who bests the field in a 54-hole scratch event, played from the Championship Blue tees. Also, players compete in their respective handicap categories for the Senior, A-, B-, C- and D-Class divisions.
Perhaps the most appreciated event of the season is the 36-hole Member-Member event. Chapman also wreaks its havoc on golf partnerships on the second day of the Member-Member. The stag night and dinner dance bring the membership together for a final gathering that helps one to remember the special nature of Cherry Hill throughout the long, cold, golfless days and nights of winter.
In addition to the formal events, Cherry Hill offers endless opportunities for one to enjoy the game with the regular foursome, the casual acquaintance and with golfers of all ages – all without scheduled tee times.
